New media is taking the world by storm, changing the way that people access information – journalists and citizens alike. It is, however, difficult to concretely define as it is continually evolving (Socha Eber-Schmid, 2012). New media encompasses digital-based content that is readily available at any time. Examples include the Internet, social media networks, blogs, mobile phones and video games (Wikimedia Foundation Inc., 2013). New media has increasingly been used since the mid-1990s to disseminate information, resulting in a media revolution. As more and more individuals gain first-hand access to information and audiovisual recording equipment, it is widely believed that the future of journalism will be digital and include a greater†¦show more content†¦Although bloggers may be using the same tactics as yellow journalists and, as a result, may be behaving unethically, they cannot get away with falsification to quite the same extent. The immediacy and variety of sources that come with new media enables readers to further investigate the facts behind stories. It is easy for individuals to check what other people, or perhaps what more credible sources, are saying about each topic by using hashtags and search functions on new media outlets (Ess, 2013). There are also a variety of websites that readers can use to discover the underlying truth. Storify is one of these websites, specializing in stories t hat are distributed through social media networks, allowing users to â€Å"add context† and â€Å"separate the fact from fiction of what people are posting† (Storify, 2013). An example of a blog that supports Holiday’s conclusion is Perez Hilton, a popular American celebrity gossip blog that receives over 300 million hits a month (Alexa Internet, Inc., 2013). The man behind the â€Å"go-to source for daily happenings in Hollywood†, Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr. (more commonly referred to as Perez Hilton) claims to be â€Å"the internet’s most notorious gossip columnist† (Lavandeira, 2013). Essays on What Is the Right Thing to Do Essay The paper â€Å"What Is the Right Thing to Do?" is a  breathtaking example of an essay on ethics. There is an ethical and moral choice to be made in turning off the road and hitting one person in order to save five that are in the direct path of the trolley that has lost its brakes. If I had been the trolley driver I would have diverted the trolley into the turning where only one person was. This is for the greater good, as I would be able to save five lives at the cost of one life. Not turning so as to save the one life that was out of the direct course of the trolley presents an ethical dilemma and is distasteful but a choice that must be made nonetheless. Saving the lives of five people as opposed to one life is utilitarian as actions are right when they benefit a greater majority  (Britanica, 2015). Many people may not agree with my decision but that is okay by me as I made the choice to save many lives at the expense of one. Knowledge, truth, and morality all exist in relat ion to cultural norms and ethics, which make it possible for others outside my situation to hold differing beliefs about what would have been the most moral or ethical action for me. I believe in the sanctity of life and that it is the duty of every human being to respect and preserve it. My role in the whole situation though was a forced one, and that meant that I would have to make a decision under pressure and for the betterment of others and myself. I could of course try and commit suicide by trying to veer off the two paths and in effect not putting any other person in harm's way. This would be the most moral and upright thing to do, as it would mean that I would avoid putting other people's lives at risk though it would be suicide.Standing on the bridgeIt would be totally unethical to throw the fat man who is as equally a spectator as myself down the bridge in order to save the six lives on the road. The most ethical and morally upright thing to do is to jump down me but that would be sure suicide and undesirable and not right  (Mill, 2012). Consequentialism would dictate that the greater good would come from saving the greater number of people at the cost of one life off the bridge. This is because it would produce greater happiness by saving more lives while causing less pain. It would totally go against the moral character to sacrifice the life of an innocent bystander and that without their consent if I threw the fat man off the bridge to stop the trolley. The fat man off the bridge may appeal more to philosophers like Jeremy Bentham who would reason that it served the greater good and created more happiness through saving more lives. However, in the case between the Queen versus Dudley and Stephens, the defendants were held guilty of murdering a young boy even though they argued that they did it out of necessity. Dudley and Stephens argued that it would benefit more people for the orphan boy to die, as no one would miss him while they had many fam ily members who would be caused a lot of grief if they died  ( Queens Bench Division, 1884). The boy was also thought of as being dispensable since he had already drunk some seawater and would have probably died eventually. This was hypothesizing on their part just as much as hypothesizing that throwing the fat man off the bridge will stop the trolley, as he may not end up obstructing it. The sailors Dudley and Stephens, in the same way, had no way of knowing when a passing ship might rescue them and therefore taking it upon them to kill the boy was immoral.

Answer: Smart Home Heating System: A Smart Device for the Smart Users When I started working designing something innovative, the idea of designing a smart home heating system came to my mind. I explored the relevant research topics and works of some reputed researchers and I found that a new smart home heating system is needed (A Summary of User Interface Design Principles, 1998). I also did a survey on the domestic uses of heating device and I found that there is a large number of people who use home heating system but the control devices are of old design and low life. Moreover, these devices need non-reusable batteries that needs to be changed frequently. For this reason, I decided to design a device that will not need these batteries, will have a smooth and attractive user interface and can be used easily by the users (Gremeau, 2012). The first idea that came to my mind was a new smartphone like device with a touchpad and rechargeable battery system. With this, the device can be recharged and reused for a long time. Another thing that came to my mi nd was designing a new system that will automatically instruct the heating device to close when one leaves the room and automatically start when one enters the room. For the innovation of design, I kept few things in mind: Innovative and Attractive Design The device must be innovative in design and attractive for interesting the customers. Moreover, the design must be unique in nature. I used a touch pad in the control device with a transparent background with an ultra-modern look. Affordable Prices I kept in mind people want products that are unique, innovative as well as affordable. Therefore, I designed the device such that the manufacturer can manufacture it easily at low expenses. Ease of Use The device must be easy to use and the customers must understand the instructions to use the device properly. Longevity The device must survive for a long period. In my design, I used rechargeable battery that can be charged again and again with long battery life. My design was inspired from the smartphones that use smooth touch screen interface with an attractive outer design. I used the same technique in my device. Moreover, I added software support to the device (Nielsen, 2012). I used a microcontroller chip in the device so that the device can be controlled from remote location with the help of the phone or computer. Again, I was inspired from auto switch mechanisms that automatically turn on or off when someone enters or leaves a room. I used similar mechanism in my device. It can be configured such that it can automatically switch on, off or hibernate according to users requirements. I added another feature to it, the gesture control (Sachs, Duvier, Cheney Akers, 2012). This is a new technique that is attracting a lot of people. So I decided to use it my device. After a lot of analysis, I added a software support that can be used from a smartphone such that the smartphone can be used as the remote control device. I also added security layers so that only a specific user can use it. For this, I added a login feature that must be used with a password. Finally, I gave a finishing touch to the device so that the interface gets an attractive look. However, I made sure everything are in place so that the users do not understand how to use it. Firstly, the cost of the system should be such that it is affordable to all levels of customers and the seller should make decent profit from the sales (Shan Seuken, 2007). Another aspect here is that, the uniqueness of a design as well as attractive interface will attract more customers to buy the product. Again, the reusable nature and long battery life will attract even more customers. Secondly, the design has to be easily understood along with an ultramodern outlook to achieve commercial success. Moreover, the uniqueness of design will help the seller to get ahead of the rival companies in terms of net sale of products (Teo, 2010). Again, the device should be easy to manufacture, or for the software support easy to program, with least possible manufacture cost to gain maximum profits. These are the basics that I kept in mind for developing the smart home heating system. I analyzed each factor and developed the device after a long period of research and survey.
